About Steve Brookes
Steve Brookes is a highly talented singer, songwriter and guitarist, who was co-founder of The Jam. These days, he plays solo acoustic gigs, performing his own material, at small venues and festivals. Steve started out in the pubs and clubs at fourteen and co-founded The Jam in Woking with his childhood best mate Paul Weller. He left after four years, deciding the direction of the band was not in keeping with his own musical influences. After a break from performing, Steve has honed his craft, writing his own material and playing venues in and around Surrey, along with key appearances at Blues Festivals around the UK. In 2008, he produced an album of original songs called Thankful, followed by an album of solo acoustic blues called Down the Line in 2009. The title track of his 2011 album of originals, Snakes and Ladders, was played on Radio 2 by Paul Jones, followed by a live performance with Paul Jones at Cranleigh in December 2012. An album of original acoustic songs was released in 2014, followed by Hoodoo Zoo in 2017, featuring Paul Weller on a couple of tracks. A new album was released in September 2021 called Tread Gently. In 2013, Steve was joined on stage by Paul Weller to play a few old songs at a charity event in Woking. Since then, they have collaborated on a number of occasions, and Steve received a Silver Disc for his contribution to Paul Weller's Saturn's Pattern in 2015. He has also played on 22 Dreams, Wake Up the Nation, Jawbone soundtrack, True Meanings and the Number One album On Sunset in 2020. Just last month, Steve performed with Paul at a charity gig in Liverpool - see the video to the right, more are on YouTube.
