We are proud to present New York State of Mind - The Music of Billy Joel - at our premier venue, the fantastic Nomad Theatre, on Friday February 23rd. This is a brilliant tribute to Billy Joel, one of the world’s most successful singer-songwriters, by a talented band of top London session musicians.
Billy Joel has sold more than 150 million records worldwide, and won countless awards, including six Grammys. His many hit songs include It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me, Just the Way You Are, Moving Out, Piano Man, She’s Aways a Woman to Me, Tell Her About It, Uptown Girl, and We Didn’t Start the Fire. Earlier this year, he topped the bill at BST Hyde Park and was described by The Guardian as a 'precision-tooled entertainment machine'.
The band impressively and faithfully captures the sound, energy and atmosphere of a Billy Joel concert with consummate musicianship and will perform songs chosen from his 50-year repertoire - greatest hits as well as deeper cuts. The band members are all top London session musicians, who have performed with such diverse artists as this year's breakthrough vocalist, Raye, as well as top artists like Sting, Joe Cocker, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Tony Christie, Pee Wee Ellis and Marcella Detroit - to name but a few. Led by Mark Roadnight and fronted by Tom Morton, the band members are: Tom Morton, vocals, piano Mark Roadnight, guitars and backing vocals James Smith, drums David McLeod, bass Nichola Pope, saxes, keyboard and backing vocals To the right is a link to a video montage of the band playing live in October at the Pheasantry, in the Kings Road. TICKETS This is an all-seated event in the small but beautifully appointed, comfortable and well-equipped Nomad Theatre, with fantastic lighting and sound. There will be two sets, with an interval.
