REG MEUROSS IN HORSLEY: A REVIEW On 20th April, Horsley Live Music Club was delighted to host singer-songwriter Reg Meuross at The Malting House. Reg is, in every way, a modern troubadour where every song tells a story. A wonderful singer and guitarist Reg entertained a packed house with his beautifully crafted songs including the stories behind: - Dick Turpin – not at all a romantic figure but small pock-marked and duplicitous - The violin played by Titanic bandleader Wallace Hartley – an instrument Reg was invited to see and hold. (Thankfully he did not drop it as it recently sold at auction for $1.7 million!) - Sophie Scholl, a 22 year old girl guillotined by the Nazis for distributing anti-government leaflets as part of the White Rose movement. Her last words were “How can we expect righteousness to prevail when there is hardly anyone willing to give himself up individually to a righteous cause”? How this resonates today with the cases of Alexei Navalny and Vladimir Kara-Murza? A highlight of the evening was when Reg described how, as a young boy, he saw Joni Mitchell at the Albert Hall on her Blue Tour. (Coincidentally Peter Earle had displayed this album sleeve on the wall). Reg stated that, on that evening, he fell in love three times: with Joni, with the Blue album, and with the Appalachian mountain dulcimer she played. He then played a lovely song on his own dulcimer. A great evening with a wonderful performer in an intimate setting. We plan to stage more such events. REVIEW BY PETER WARBURTON Promotion - We are proud to present Reg Meuross at the Malting House. Reg is a true modern troubadour, who has captivated audiences around the world with his singing, songwriting and storytelling. The breadth and depth of Reg Meuross’s material is unparalleled. If something needs to be sung about, then Reg Meuross has a song for it, from climate change to the kitchen sink. Reg is touring with songs of history, protest, love, loss, and legend drawn from his 14 album releases. His wonderful songs are beautifully sung and played. Reg has played gigs and festivals small and large across the globe, touring in the UK, the USA, Australia and New Zealand. Festival highlights include Cropredy, Cambridge Folk Festival, Great British Folk Festival, Looe Music Festival, Newport Festival and many more. His show is spellbinding, whether on a festival stage or in the more intimate setting of the Malting House. Tickets are £12 plus booking fee. Click here to book.
