LIVE AND ACOUSTIC
AT THE MALTING HOUSE (BARLEY MOW, WEST HORSLEY)
THURSDAY 24th AUGUST. FIVE ACTS FOR A FIVER!
- Sold Out -
The success of our first acoustic evening back in January led to repeated cries for an encore - so here it is. Your chance to enjoy five great local acts for just a fiver, in the rather groovy setting of the Malting House, on the evening of Thursday 24th August.
Live Music will run from 7.45 to 10.15, with a series of intervals to allow for the all-important purchase of drinks. Tickets are just £5. All performers are club members and have donated their services free of charge. All proceeds will go to Club funds. The acts performing are: The Acoustic Pumas, CS&G, and Dr Phil, plus special guests Jonny P and Malcolm & Peter. THE ACOUSTIC PUMAS The Acoustic Pumas is an offshoot of the legendary Surrey Pumas, a band that has roamed the Surrey Hills for many years, playing all manner of events and venues. Tonight you'll hear Americana - a fusion of roots music. Expect to hear songs ranging from the Eagles and the Traveling Wilburys to Bruce Springsteen and Roy Orbison. The band are: Mark Beasley, Malcolm Brickell, Alex Gilbertson and Steve Marshall.. C,S & G (Clare Maguire, Steve McGurk and George Stein) will perform an eclectic set highlighting the celtic purity of Clare's voice, Steve's rather nifty guitar playing and George's stellar keyboard skills. Dr Phil is a combination of rhythmic guitar and vocal energy. Expect him to power his way through songs by the likes of Crowded House, Oasis and REM. We are also lucky to have two guest performances from opposite ends of the musical spectrum. Malcolm and Peter will be singing a few songs from the Joe Brown era of pre-Beatles pop. Jonny P - who is lead singer of heavy rock band Apache Rose - will don his acoustic guitar and leather trouers, to play a few melodic rock anthems. Thanks to Simon Hillard (b/w) Paul Waterer and Alan Barrett for the photos from our event in January. If you are a member and would like to perform at an evening like this, we are very happy for you to suggest and organise your very own 'live and acoustic' event. That's how this one happened! THE MALTING HOUSE The Malting House is a separate building at the back of the Barley Mow, West Horsley, KT24 6HR. It can be accessed via the Car Park at the rear. It is the home of the Horsley Live Music Club and is used regularly for lower-key musical events, like this one, featuring acoustic, folk and jazz artists. There is a bar and a stage, some seating and tables, and a relaxed, friendly and cool vibe. There is limited parking - we suggest that you consider sharing a ride or walking.
