THE MARK HARRISON BAND.   SUNDAY 26th APRIL 2026
Picture
The Horsley Live Music Club is delighted to welcome Mark Harrison and his band back to Horsley, with a brand new show, called Walk the Road.  Mark is a long-established singer/songwriter on the roots music scene who often draws on folk blues history for his inspiration.  Constantly touring and multi-award-nominated, his highly individual music takes him and his band to some of the top venues and festivals in the UK, attracting acclaim wherever they go. Join us for an uplifting evening of modern songs that sound like classics, on Sunday 26th April, in the intimate setting of the Malting House, behind the Barley Mow, West Horsley. Numbers are limited, so please book early.   Tickets are £20.00 (includes booking fee).   Click here to book
WALK THE ROAD
WALK THE ROAD brings to life the personalities, world and adventures of the great folk blues artists who invented so much of the music we hear and like today. The show takes you on a fun journey from the juke joints of the Mississippi Delta of the 1920s to the Newport Folk Festivals of the 1960s (as portrayed in the film about Bob Dylan A Complete Unknown).

This isn’t a covers show. It’s modern songwriting with deep roots, showing how the music and spirit of the great troubadours live on. Original material inspired by legends like Lightnin’ Hopkins, Skip James, Sonny Boy Williamson and more. This is the soul of American folk blues, told in a very British voice.

Performed by the acclaimed Mark Harrison Band:
Mark Harrison – guitars/vocals
Charles Benfield – double bass/vocals
Ben Welburn – drums/percussion

MORE ABOUT MARK HARRISON
"A bit different and kinda groovy too", (Cerys Matthews, BBC Radio 2)

Constantly touring and multi-awards-nominated, Mark Harrison has a reputation for being unlike anyone else out there. Described at BBC Radio 2 as an artist who ‘makes you think afresh’, and by countless audience members and reviewers as ‘uplifting' and ‘inspirational’, his highly individual music takes him and his band to some of the top venues and festivals in the UK, attracting acclaim wherever they  go.

Mark’s live shows are well-known not only for the memorable songs but also for his introductions to them, delivered in a manner often described as ‘wry’ and ‘dry’. He has been frequently heard on BBC Radio 2, including on its Pick of the Week show on a playlist containing many of the world’s top pop artists.

Mark writes songs about things most people live and think about but don’t hear songs about, and songs that tell stories they haven’t heard before. Proper songs, with catchy melodies and memorable lyrics that you can hear.

The extraordinary MARK HARRISON BAND has a unique sound and style that is very much their own genre, and incorporates elements of classic roots, rock, folk and blues. They have been compared to classic artists of the golden era such as The Band and Little Feat. It’s music to make you smile, think and move. The band features the amazing musicianship of Charles Benfield (double bass/harmonies) and Ben Welburn (drums/percussion), who form a unique and much-admired rhythm section.

Mark has released eight albums, which have been unanimously acclaimed across a wide range of areas of the music world, receiving a very great deal of airplay and highly enthusiastic reviews in the UK, Europe and the US.  With his outstanding tunes, wry observations, striking rhythms and stunning guitar playing, Mark Harrison is widely considered one of the most original and interesting artists around. You won’t hear anything else quite like him.
