CASH at HORSLEY TOWERS on SUNDAY APRIL 27th
Johnny Cash is one of the most important, influential and respected artists in the history of popular music. His legacy is in safe hands with CASH, a five-piece band that accurately captures the look, sound and excitement of Johny Cash. They say there are two types of people in this world: those who like Johny Cash and those that don't know a damn thing about music. There’s a lot to like about CASH. A front man with the voice, looks and vibes of the great man himself. The chugging rhythms of the Tennessee Three. A great June Carter. Classics like Folsom Prison Blues, Ghost Riders in the Sky, I Walk the Line, Jackson and Ring of Fire. And a performance that’s full of energy, authenticity and passion. To get an idea, have a look at the videos on this page. This will be a seated concert in the atmospheric and historic setting of the Great Hall at Horsley Towers. Don't miss it! Tickets are £25 (incl. booking fee) and can be booked by clicking here INFORMATION ABOUT THE SHOW

CASH – THE BAND
Ben Welburn - Vocals / Acoustic Guitar Kiran Hungin - Vocals Robert Ray - Electric Guitar / Vocals Chuck Benfield – Stand-up Bass Matt Cowley - Drums It all begins with Ben Welburn, who effortlessly recreates the sound, vibe and appeal of Johny Cash. Growing up in a musical household on a farm in Yorkshire, music has always been central to Ben’s life. But it was the music of a certain JR Cash that gave him that first “light bulb” moment, as he recalls. “I had heard music before, of course. But this voice. His voice. I mean it literally brought me to a standstill. The words too. They just struck a chord with me somewhere and I really felt I understood what he was saying. I got this man, even as a child I could feel it”. Investigating the man further, Ben realised it wasn’t just Cash’s musicality that they had in common. The way Cash stood up for the working class, and wasn’t some clean cut musical idol, only served to heighten Ben’s appreciation of the man. Aided by many late nights and a plentiful supply of hard liquor, Ben would often sing Johnny Cash songs to his mates, strumming along on acoustic guitar. Being a drummer first, it took a bit of coaxing from family and friends before Ben decided to take the Cash alter-ego seriously. “I have always felt a bit weird about pretending to be anyone else other than myself, so the concept of being Johnny Cash didn’t really appeal”, says Ben. “People were continuously telling me I had to do something with all this Cash stuff, so I decided I would start taking it more seriously, but the word tribute was key. I would pay my respects to the man by getting his stuff out there again; reaching out to established and new fans, but in no way would I try to be him. That is just not doable in my eyes, so I don’t want people thinking I think I am him. Cos I don’t!” |
JOHNY CASH - THE MAN IN BLACK
Johnny Cash is one of the most important, influential and respected artists in the history of recorded music. Born into a family of Arkansas sharecroppers in the middle of the Great Depression, in 1932, he went to issue 67 studio albums, 14 live albums and over 100 compilation albums - and was still recording up to his death in 2003. His humble origins shaped his beliefs, his career and his music, epitomised by his all-black stage clothes and rebellious nature. The 'Man in Black' was much more than a gimmick. "I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down, livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town; I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime, but is there because he's a victim of the times." The powerful bass-baritone voice and compelling songwriting of Johny Cash first came to fame in 1955, at Memphis’ fabled Sun Records, with songs like “I Walk the Line,” “Big River” and “Folsom Prison Blues”. The recordings were matched by his powerful stage performances. As Cash matured, his career encompassed many important personal subjects, including the lot of the Native American, faith and devotion, and the working man. His prison concerts and TV Show confirmed his legendary status, leading to global travel and fame, and becoming the biggest selling recording artist on earth. PLEASE NOTE 1.
